The promise you swore not to break
easily broke as your heart swayed.
The truth you promised you would give
is like your word, and I outlived.
The touch and go of what we meant
was buried alive by words you said.
That image of you in the past:
It was the best, but the last.
The tried and true of what we said
was buried alive in what you meant,
Helen!
You thought I’d need a monument
to the energy that we spent.
All I wanted was words from you,
proof that what we said was true.
Helen, what happened to you?
The light in your eyes is gone.
Helen, what happened to you?
Your eyes don’t shine anymore.

Circles

As far away as the phone:
the apogee of the unknown.
If you don’t call, I don’t care.
Just, somehow, let me know you’re there.
And, so, the cyclone starts to spin
when you refuse to let me in.
Although you guard and turn with “No,”
I refuse to let you go,
so we go in circles, now.
If I had known I was chasing the wind,
would I have stopped?
I only thought I was chasing you.
Up and up ‘til we’re away,
further and further each day
until, eventually, you’re gone,
as far away as the phone.
We go in circles, go in circles, now.
